| Information |
For 250 years,
the Baptist churches have brought their
own unique contribution to the corporate life and witness of the Christian Church in
Scotland. Evangelical
in persuasion and evangelistic in practice, Baptists affirm the need for each individual
to have a personal relationship with Jesus Christ. They are known primarily for their
practice of believers baptism but there are other characteristics which combine to form
Baptist distinctives. Among them are a commitment to the authority and
integrity of Scripture, an understanding of the Church as the gathered community of
believers, the separation of Church and State, the obligations of Christian discipleship
and the priesthood of all believers. These combine to create a spiritual dynamic which,
along with flexibility in structure makes a Baptist church vibrant, purposeful and
warm-hearted in fellowship. |
