My Torry
10 Feb 2005
Torry gets a bad Press . . . junkies, vandalism, fire-raising. But the real truth lies in the monthly police statistics — Torry is one of the most crime-free and safest places in Aberdeen! Check out the statistics for the posh areas of the city. Far worse than Torry. Torry is virtually a village in its own right. We've welcomed in many newcomers from around the world. They are happy to be with us. The local community council is one of the strongest and most active in the city. In recent months it has won a monumental battle to stop the building of a massive incinerator; instigated and successfully carried out the task of planting no fewer than 10,000 deciduous trees at Nigg as part of a new public park which will prove to be a big attraction for all Aberdonians; established a fine and handy Neighbourhood Centre which now houses four doctors' surgeries, the community bobbies and social services; opened a very popular youth cafe; and, is much to the fore in the planned regeneration of Old Torry. The activities and the wildlife on the River Dee attract hundreds of visitors. Torry may not be posh, but it's a posh place to live in.
